HDPE & PVC PIPES

HDPE AND PVC PIPES

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes are flexible pipes used mostly for low- temperature fluid and gas transfer. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipes on the other hand are rigid in nature and can be used in plumbing, drainage, agricultural irrigation, and ductwork of heating and cooling systems. Both pipes are used for piping irrigation systems and the choice of one against the other would be dependent on personal preference, affordability, and convenience. Many farmers prefer to combine both, especially in water piping for greenhouse irrigation.

Advantages and Disadvantages

  1. PVC pipes

PVC pipes are light in weight, resistant to chemical corrosion, available in several lengths, and reduce the general cost of handling, transportation, and installation. They are highly adaptable to earth movements thus rendering them the preferred option for underground piping systems. However, they are not without disadvantages. They are brittle and can easily crack, their strength can reduce at high temperatures.

2. HDPE pipes

HDPE pipes are also light in weight, resistant to corrosion, and are chemical resistant, but their advantage over PVC pipes is that they are flexible and are not easily breakable. They are easily installable and transported in bulk. Moreover, they are easily repairable since the damaged portion can be cut and a new pipe can be connected on both ends using the butt fusion process. However, their flexibility can be a disadvantage since it is less strong. They are also flammable which makes them a disadvantage on top of the fact that they cost slightly more than PVC pipes.

Availability

At Afro Drip Limited, both HDPE and PVC pipes are available in different lengths and thicknesses. They are also available in units of pressure which guides the user on their choice depending on their personal use for the pipe. Their availabilities are as indicated below.
